Some homes rely on a boiler system to heat water while others have little containers hooked up to the fixture to convert cold water to hot when it is convenient and do not store hot water: these are referred to as tankless water
heaters.
Generally speaking, cold water is heated and stored in hot water tanks and can be used at any time.
Cold water is sourced from the bottom of the tank and is heated by a gas burner. The water is heated and reheated, as it is not all the time that the hot water is being used. The tank has a thermostat that controls the temperature of the water as it arrives through your tap.
Water tanks are favourable because they are common, inexpensive, easy to use, and they do not require much electricity if any at all.
Tankless on the other hand produces an endless supply of hot water. Great for high demand households.
While hot water tanks are very liable in structure, function, and maintenance, there are times when a repair is inevitable.
There are a series of signs that prompt a need for repair:
For example, if your tank is not heating your water, it will definitely need to be inspected, repaired, and in extreme cases, replaced.
Further signs include a burner that does not remain lit, rusting or inconsistencies in the structure of the tank, low quality or smell of gas in the system or simply when parts of the tank itself, seems to be breaking apart.
